Mike Brown首次接觸教練團工作是在1990年代早期，在他逐漸成名發跡的過程中，當時經驗豐富的教頭Bernie Bickerstaff曾將Brown拉到一旁提點，傾囊相授的告訴他許多金玉良言。

Brown提到：「他告訴我，小夥子，不論在職場或日常生活中，都盡可能不與人交惡，必須為自己留退路，因為以後你不知道何時會需要他們。」

「如此簡單而實用的建言，我也一直奉為圭臬。你會感謝生命中所出現的機會，並試著全力以赴。」Brown接著說。

他的人生準則在今年夏天獲得巨大的成功，Mike Brown出現在賭城拉斯維加斯，身穿繡有騎士隊隊徽的上衣站在球員休息室裡。

原來，三年前被克里夫蘭騎士解雇的他，又回到老東家接受聘用，並希望能像當年帶領Lebron James一樣，讓騎士重返顛峰，再度成為東區勁旅。
