帶母親去京都自助旅行時，才知她對一層一層、溢滿蜜糖蛋奶香氣的年輪蛋糕情有獨鍾。母女倆到百貨公司地下的知名糕點店買了兩小塊，帶著在往奈良的電車上吃。母親說：「沒你阿嬸做得好哩！」

母親指的是比我小一歲的印尼堂嬸，幾年前嫁給年紀可以當她父親的堂叔，生了一雙靈活慧黠的兒女，小我兩輪的堂弟堂妹。我知道印尼也有千層蛋糕，由荷蘭傳進，成為傳統糕點。下一次返鄉，我便央請阿嬸教我做。

阿嬸帶來了三十顆蛋、一盒印尼鹹奶油、些許麵粉、糖，蛋只取蛋黃，把這些材料以攪拌機混合之後，才是細工的開始。每次只能在烤盤上鋪上一層，入烤箱，五至十分鐘，拿出來，再上第二層。也就是說，若一條蛋糕有十層，如此動作需重複十次。兩層金黃交界處，會綻出琥珀色的光澤。

這自己動手做的真材實料版，一條蛋糕可切十片，平均一片裡有三顆蛋黃，以為只是吃了一片蛋糕，其實吃進了高量膽固醇。而一盤算成本便可知，外面糕點店賣的，必定是用來路不明的蛋粉與香精取代。

我只自己親手做過那麼一次，後來在外面也不買來吃了。
