《Reuters》報導，消息來源指出，馬來西亞航空受今年兩起重大飛安意外影響，虧損嚴重，可能大幅裁員 25%。

不願具名的消息來源指出，馬航本月稍早被私有化之後，馬來西亞國庫控股 (Khazanah Nasional Bhd) 成為馬航最大股東，持有該公司 69.37% 的股份。

國庫控股最快可望在八月 28 日公佈馬航重整計畫，其中包括減少航班、裁員 5000-6000 人。

馬航本月 28 日即將公佈第二季財報，市場預期馬航虧損將進一步擴大。

馬航今年第一季受到航班 MH370 莫名消失影響，財報創近兩年來最差表現。七月17日 MH17 班機在烏克蘭領空遭擊落，造成機上 298 人死亡，旅客紛紛取消定位，馬航處境更雪上加霜。

目前馬航與大股東據稱正與銀行協商，計畫出售工程部門，並升級老舊的客機，可能還會指派新執行長取代其他資深高層。

馬來西亞國庫控股發言人對此消息不願發表評論，目前亦無法取得馬航官員對於此消息回應。

分析師認為，遭裁員馬航員工可望被派遣到其他國營企業工作，減少對於生計的衝擊。
